When Technology takes over!

Hi Guys,

Hope you are having a good week? I am hoping we have seen the last of the snow as it played havoc with my plans at the weekend!

Last week I went to do a presentation at a local High School on starting my own business. I was waiting in reception and a student came down to use the land line in order to contact a family member. I was shocked when the student didn't know how to use the landline! Now granted some reception phones are complicated, however I think it is more likely that not many people actually use them anymore as mobile's have taken over!

It made me realise that I kinda wish we could go back to the days, when you had to phone a guy's house if you wanted to get hold of them. Back to the the days that when you were out with friends you interacted with each other instead of social media (a massive bug bare of mine!)

Don't get me wrong it is fantastic how technology has developed and everything we can achieve through it. However I am talking about the simple things.....I fear that people are forgetting how to interact with each other as it is so easy to hide behind a phone......a mobile of course and not a landline ;)

The same can happen with exercise, it can get over complicated. There are so many diet plans out there, so many fantastic new exercises and it can sometimes feel too complicated to even start. The thing is keeping it simple, there is no need to re-invent the wheel, no need to do crazy one legged moves on a swiss ball whilst holding a barbell on your back!

Keep it simple, take things back to basics.....you can have a fantastic work-out just using your own body-weight. If you don't believe me then come along and try one of our sessions. Yes I like to mix things up in bootcamp and in my own training. However sticking to the basics can get you great results. It is the same with fat loss - energy in V's energy out.

When you fall out of love in the City of Romance!

Hi Guys,

Hope you are having a good week? In my last blog I mentioned that I had recently been to Paris, so I thought I would give you an update on my first trip abroad of 2018 (well the parts I am willing to share lol).

So last year 8 of us decided to have a 'girly' trip away and to incorporate a half marathon into a trip.....(it was a good idea at the time!).

First of all we were just glad to get to London on the train because of all the cancellations due to the snow.......so glad in fact that we cracked open a bottle of Prosecco at 8am! It was a fab journey there and the 'party animals' amongst us carried on the celebrations till 4am once we had arrived in Paris!

The Saturday was spent collecting numbers and doing some sightseeing (as well as trying to hydrate after the previous nights antics). It is the first time I have visited Paris and not sure what it was but it did seem to have such a romantic feel to it! For me the Romance died the day after when we did the half marathon! I was enjoying it up to mile 8!

Now I went knowing that I hadn't trained properly for it, this was a conscious decision as I want to compete again this year........ long distance running is not the best training to do whilst trying to build/maintain muscle mass. Anyway this aside I didn't have the best pre-race prep, late night dancing and walking 8 miles the previous couple of days aren't the most appropriate.

For a while now I have not enjoyed long distance running as much as I used to, I prefer the high intensity training, the intervals, the hills and most of all the time saving training. For me, I fell out of love in the city of Romance! Now I have been through phases before and I am not saying I will never do another half marathon (although I did last week lol) however I want to train smart, maximum intensity in the least time possible! I think as I have got older and busier, I don't have the time to be spending hours and hours plodding the pavements.

This principle not only applies to running, most people lead busy lives and want training sessions which have the most impact in the least time possible, whilst delivering results!

This is why at bootcamp we do high intensity interval training.....so you can work at your own level in a set period of time, whilst having very little rest periods. This allows you to get the most out of your training and helps torch fat!

Happy Competition Day........Sorry Mother's Day!

Hello Troops,

Now you may have thought I had gone awol as not done a blog this week! Well I was awol for a while in Paris last week (which I will save for another blog) and it has taken some getting over!

Now I don't normally send anything out on a weekend, however, today is an exception as it is Mother's day.

I just wanted to say Happy Mothers day to all those amazing mothers out there, who inspire, motivate and generally try to keep shit together on a daily basis.

I often have issues with facebook, on how people promote their amazing lives on there.....it sometimes feels like a competition on who has the best post, the most likes, or who has checked themselves into the most amazing places. Don't get me wrong I use facebook and I like having a good nosey as much as the next person.

However one thing I noticed today was that facebook posts seem to have made even Mothers Day competitive! How many posts about who has the best Mum in the world! Now in all honesty if you are lucky enough to have (or had) an amazing women who inspires, motivates, makes you strong and loves you unconditionally and you get to call her Mum then it goes without saying that in your own eyes she is the Best Mum in the world! My very own version below :)

There are lots of things in life where competition does come into play, like sports, getting a job, winning new business, however, being surrounded by people who you love and make you happy should not be one of them.

One thing I promote in bootcamp is that it is open to all.....the only person you should be competing against is yourself. It doesn't matter how many press-ups or burpees the next person does........all that matters is that you are better than the person you were yesterday.

We do assessments at bootcamp to show progression and help you become a better version of yourself.

So if you want to train in a friendly, motivating environment where the only competition is you then click one of the links below.

For those who still have their Mum's around give them a big hug! For those who are not lucky enough then take this email as virtual hug!
